Match report
A fuller match report will be in the Yearbook. Maybe it's my increasing weakness that makes me think that school sides are getting stronger but Tiffin certainly looked like a very well balanced young side and once again we had a problem taking wickets even with our normally very successful tweakers. I don't wish to make too much of this, but the ball we were given to bowl with felt like pig skin and it took until the 30th over to get any sort of shine on it. With the exception of Dave Boothroyd who was unlucky not to find the edge on many occasions and clean bowling his 3 wickets, no bowler ever looked like stopping the flow of runs and the boys ended up making a fair declaration 0f 257 for 4 off 47.3 overs after a very convincing ton by left hander C.Fulton and some agressive batting by V.Sattani and C.Sachdeva. Unfortunately and as is common in this fixture, our top 5 did not deliver except for a solid 29 by Matt Hoyle and it was left to new member Johan de Silva (49*) and Gurpal Singh (44*) to show our more experienced players how to play the very good school spinners along with some well hit contributions from our ex Tiffs skipper Kaps (17, and like Sunny, out to a long hop) and Tom Whyte who seemed very fluent for his 22 until getting clean bowled. Alas we had fallen well behind the clock that a win became out of the question for the last 12 overs and despite Gurpal's attacking innings, we successfully held on for a draw having received 48 overs back. Well played Tiffin School and their long time coach Martin. Duggers
