Match report
A fuller report will be in the Yearbook.
It was nice for a change for the weather to take no part in this fixture and it must have been by 'force of habbit' that incogs found themselves in the field. Skipper Bowry obviously confident that he had a batting line up to chase down any target that the very talented young school side could post.... or maybe he saw some demons in the apparently very flat pitch. Incogs tried everything to get the ball past the St Pauls' pats without much luck and an excellent ton from Tom Powe allowed them to make a very fair declaration after 49 over giving the Incogs a target of 243 for a rare win. Dave Boothroyd was the pick of the bowlers with good pace, line and length but no luck. Tom Whyte also bowled well without luck. Gurps Singh bowled a few ripping wides before finding the edge of a well set young Ahaja with a 'straight one'. All the other support bowlers got tap from Powe as is shown in the bowling figures but our reluctant bowler Illy Krunic managed to get an enormous amount of seam when bowling his 3 overs at the end. Our innings began very well against the new ball with new candidate Paul Geary and Assad Naeem playing very comfortably for a partnership of over 70 until (as usual at St Pauls) their spinners came on and took control of the game with some very acurate bowling; with A.Dewhurst especially convincing and drwaing our entire middle order down the wicket for some easy stumpings. As much as our young Gurpal Singh still 'went for it', we had got so far behind the clock that a win was really out of sight. Throughout all these tumbling wickets, Indy Chakrabarti was having to watch the other end while batting superbly with very good footwork against a variety of spinners ending up with a well deserved 75*. One day we'll beat these little '***gers'. Duggers
