Sandhurst Wanderers CC v Incogniti Cricket Club Incogniti CC on Sun 11 May 2014 at 12.30
Incogniti Cricket Club Won by eight wickets
Match report
A fine win for Incogniti in the beautiful surroundings of the Royal Military Academy saw everyone contribute, always a pleasing outcome for a skipper. Sandhurst won the toss and elected to bat on a green tinged wicket, and, making the most of conditions the Incogs opening attack of Cropley and Grylls had Sandhurst at 8 for 3 and then 27 for 4. Jack Grylls, an Incogs candidate as well as an officer cadet at the academy can expect an interview without coffee on Monday for taking 2 for 22 against his bosses. A repair job was undertaken by Sandhurst captain (a real Captain) Oliver Lerwall with a fine innings of 64 (someone give him candidate papers quick) supported by an unconventional but effective knock from Sgt Guyton, of 26. Gurpaul Singh came on to bowl with warmer fingers than last year which showed in his haul of 3 for 39, and he also took a good catch in the deep to dismiss Lerwall. Tom Mason had a few overs after lunch which shows the value of sitting next to the skipper and topping up his port glass. Several other were surprised at the bowling change. Norm was heard to say: "Tom? Tom Mason?!! Blimey!" Norm took the last wicket to fall in his classy spell of 1 for 1 off three balls.
Only four batsmen were used in the Incogs run chase with the target of 124 being overhauled in the 25th over. Matt Hoyle's 34 not out anchored the innings assisted by a belligerent 30 from Sunny and and able 25 from Tony Wood. Assad added the finishing touches. Many thanks to Beryl for scoring and Lord Moss for umpiring, and of course to the Sandhurst team for their hospitality.
Finally, for man of the match I recommend Paul Furness for three stumpings (in one case the batsman nearly made it to Guildford he was so far out of his ground) and a catch.
