Match report
Tom Wakeford, Incogniti CC stand-in skipper for his injured brother, lost the toss and Incogs were asked to bat. Mason and Hoyle made a solid start, with Mason's fine cover drive unfurled several times. Hoyle was well caught by Dan Rosson, bringing Alex Smith to the crease. Smith and Mason continued the good work, picking the gaps and building a score. Smith was just getting his innings going when caught in the covers off the fiery seam bowling of James Love. Mason fell shortly after a rain interval as he tried to lift the tempo for a well constructed 43. Leat batted excellently for his 74, accelerating quickly towards the end of the innings. He and Richardson (20) put on a quick-fire 30 as fast runs were needed, and when Wakeford replaced Richardson Leat exploded hitting 58 of the 67 partnership. Wakeford declared the innings on 182 as soon as Leat was bowled in the 41st over.
NLCC's opener was an Incog (Mike Leighton), who kindly donated Hoyle a catch in the slips in the second over. Najib and Altmann batted well against good seam bowling from Whyte (2-34 from 11) and Cropley (0-59 from 10). Whickman induced a slog from Altmann that was well held by Mason, but alas this brought NLCC's class batter Tennakoon to the crease. Incogs had no answer to his flawless technique, losing in the 32nd over with 5 to spare. Had a few chances been taken it may have forced a different result.
An enoyable game nonetheless. Thanks to Paul Furness for umpiring both ends for the first half of the match, and to Clare Whickman for scoring.
