MILLERS CC v Incogniti Cricket Club Incogniti CC on Thu 04 Jul 2013 at 11:30am
Incogniti Cricket Club Won

Match report Millers won the toss and elected to bat on a cloudy but warm morning. Furness, Incogniti hon. fixture secretary but playing for his old school side, opened up to face the wily left-arm seam of Whyte and the pacey right-arm Aussie Hocking (Guest). Patiently at first, before unleashing some textbook cover drives later in the innings, Furness compiled a fine hundred. He offered few chances, but Incogs skipper Wakeford, filling in at the last minute despite a double fracture of the finger, did contrive to drop him on 99! Despite juggling the bowlers, Incogs had no answer to Furness and Cuff who put on 150 for the third wicket. We were particularly hit by injury to Whickman, who after his heroics of last year (4-47 off 11), attempted to start a spell, bowled two wides and discovered he couldn't finish the over (without a legal ball being bowled!).

Incogs were set 262 to win, and Mason immediately set about the task with aplomb, striking a trio of boundaries in the first two overs he faced. Whickman and Ritchie were removed by the impressive Chase (2-36), but guest Aussie Ben Hocking arrived at the crease and soon got the run chase back on track. He and Mason put on 100, seeing us through tea and right up until the last hour. Despite a wobble with Mason and Whyte falling with 18 overs to go, Hocking and Leighton calmly brought the runs required down to 23 from 8 overs. As with many an Incog's chase, however, there was to be twist as both batsmen fell in the space of 4 balls, leaving Dugdale and Arnould to see us home. They did so with the minimum of fuss, despite some testing off-spin from opposition skipper Hutchinson (3-32 from 11). A fine victory for Incogniti CC, and of course special congratulations to Paul Furness - an Incog scoring a hundred against Incogniti. We were wonderfully looked after as always by Millers, and look forward to resuming the friendly rivalry next season.
