Millers CC v Incogniti Cricket Club Incogniti CC on Thu 05 Jul 2012 at 11.30
Match was Drawn

Match report In a late selection twist, as three umpires arrived and Millers were one-short, Whickman quickly gathered some kit together to turn out for Incogs, and Furness swapped allegiances to Millers.

Incogniti won the toss and elected to bowl on a green wicket and in conditions that looked ideally suited to the two left-arm openers Wakeford and Whyte.

Amidst plenty of playing and missing, as the ball seamed and spat off the wicket, openers Furness and Walia clung on to their wickets. The score only overtook the number of overs in the 9th after an authoritative pull from Furness through square leg. An attempted repeat, however, saw the ball loop to Wakeford at short mid-on. This brought Fleming to the crease and he and Walia battled to 105, playing bravely and with great skill despite excellent bowling from Whyte, Harte, Richardson and Padhani. The platform those two built allowed the remaining Millers batters to press for quick runs at the end. They did so but not without difficulty against Whickman who bowled superbly to take 4 wickets. Sims was excellent behind the stumps, taking a catch and two stumpings, in what was a good display all round from the Incogs in the field including an over-rate of over 17 an hour! Millers declared after 58 overs leaving 190 for Incogs to win.

Leighton and Mason opened up, the latter unlucky to be caught at gulley off a spitting delivery that caught the shoulder of the bat. Leighton anchored the innings, whilst the rest tried to push toward a challenging total. None were quite good enough to withstand the slow-seam of Halford, who finished with 6-58. Hoyle, Leat, Padhani, Wakeford and in particular Richardson all batted well but got out at a crucial times. It was left to Sims and Harte to bat out the remaining 4 overs which they did with relative ease. There was alas no chance for Whickman to hit the 36 off required off the last over that would surely capped the best performance from a man who started the game as third umpire!
